Abuse and Neglect

The program presents the scope of abuse and neglect in the U.S. and worldwide. The signs and symptoms of abuse in children, adults and elders are discussed. Reports by victims, indicating that they seek care from their dental health care providers more often than their medical caretakers following abuse, necessitates increased vigilance by dental personnel. Maryland laws and regulations, and the American Dental Associationsí Code of Ethics regarding cases of abuse and/or neglect are presented.
